Skin Rejuvenation with the Aerolase NeoDerm: Dr. Cheryl Burgess Demonstrates Her In-Office Protocol
Dr. Cheryl Burgess demonstrates the Aerolase NeoDerm for hyperpigmentation, acne, and skin rejuvenation with no downtime. Recorded live at AAD 2026.
Cheryl Burgess, MD, demonstrates a live skin rejuvenation treatment using the Aerolase NeoDerm, recorded at the Aerolase booth during the AAD Annual Meeting 2026. Dr. Burgess has used the NeoDerm in her practice since 2010 and treats with it on a daily basis.
Hyperpigmentation is among the most common conditions dermatologists see, driven largely by cumulative sun and incidental light exposure. In this demonstration, Dr. Burgess explains how the NeoDerm targets pigment in the lower epidermis and upper dermis without compromising skin integrity or surrounding tissue.
Key points from the demonstration:
- Indications: The NeoDerm carries more than 30 indications, spanning cosmetic and medical dermatology, including skin rejuvenation, hyperpigmentation, acne, and nail bed conditions such as fungus and subungual warts, treated without the need to evulse the nail.
- Lens options: Interchangeable lenses ranging from 3mm to 10mm allow coverage to be matched to treatment area and condition.
- Acne and isotretinoin: Dr. Burgess references published research, including work by Dr. Michael Gold, supporting concurrent use of low-dose isotretinoin with laser treatment to control cystic acne flares without scarring or adverse events, a departure from earlier guidance requiring a one-year gap between the two.
- Energy titration by skin type: Treatment energy is adjusted based on skin type and patient tolerance, with lighter skin types generally tolerating higher energy settings.
- Patient experience: Patients in the demonstration described the sensation as a warm, comfortable airflow, with no numbing or pre-treatment required.
- No downtime: Treatment produces no exfoliation or erythema, allowing patients to return to normal activity immediately.
Dr. Burgess also outlines how the NeoDerm fits within the broader Aerolase portfolio, including the Era for superficial resurfacing, the Reverse Protocol combining NeoDerm and Era in the same session, and the Excimer 308 for depigmenting conditions such as vitiligo and pityriasis alba.
