Era Elite® 2940nm Er:YAG Laser

Four Optical Modules. One Device. Fitzpatrick I–VI.

Every depth of resurfacing on one platform: sub-ablative renewal, full-field ablation, hybrid fractional remodeling. Each 300-microsecond pulse finishes before heat can spread, so patients recover in days, not weeks. No consumables, no cooling, no anesthetic.

Why Physicians Choose Era Er:YAG Laser Technology

Era is designed to enhance patient outcomes while simplifying your practice. Its innovative features and precision-driven design enable you to deliver exceptional care efficiently and profitably.

Adjustable Fluence and Ablation Depth

Fluence is adjustable across the module range, taking treatment from sub-ablative surface renewal through to deeper full-field ablation. The 2940nm wavelength sits at the peak of water absorption, and the 300-microsecond pulse ablates tissue faster than heat can spread, so depth is set by energy rather than by dwell time.

No Consumables, No Cooling, No Contact

Era requires no disposable tips, no anesthetic, and no contact or cryogen cooling. Full-face resurfacing averages 10 to 20 minutes. Pricing is set against your patient base rather than a disposable cost.

Ablative Resurfacing Across Fitzpatrick I–VI

Traditional ablative lasers carry a high risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in Fitzpatrick IV through VI, which is why most resurfacing platforms quietly exclude those patients.

At 300 microseconds, energy is absorbed by water at the surface rather than lingering in melanin. Controlled ablation leaves little heat behind to trigger a pigment response. The sub-ablative and full-field modules are indicated across Fitzpatrick I–VI.

“We’re doing ablative treatments earlier for patients to prevent aging in the future. After the Era treatment patients commonly refer to the treatment as a magic eraser because it takes away the visible signs of aging the patients notice, plus brown spots that are not adequately treated with a lighter treatment such as chemical peels.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Aerolase Era?

The Aerolase Era is a 2940nm erbium (Er:YAG) ablative resurfacing laser platform built on 300-microsecond pulse technology. A single device supports four treatment modes through interchangeable Optical Delivery Systems: sub-ablative AfterGlow, Full-field ablation 10mm and 6mm, and the Hybrid Fractional modules. The 300-microsecond pulse ablates tissue faster than heat can spread, leaving minimal residual thermal damage and reepithelialization within roughly 48 hours.

What is the difference between the four Era Optical Modules?

Each Optical Delivery System changes the depth of action of the same 300-microsecond, 2940nm energy. AfterGlow works sub-ablatively, heating and renewing the surface without an open wound. The 10mm module delivers light full-field ablation and handles most resurfacing volume. The 6mm concentrates the same energy at higher fluence for deeper full-field ablation. Hybrid Fractional adds 16 microchannels reaching into the dermis alongside full-field renewal in a single pulse.

Is Er:YAG laser resurfacing safe on Fitzpatrick IV to VI skin?

Yes, Er:YAG laser resurfacing is safe on Fitzpatrick IV through VI. At 300 microseconds, energy is absorbed by water at the surface rather than lingering in melanin, and controlled ablation with minimal residual thermal damage reduces the post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation risk that limits traditional ablative lasers in darker skin.

How does the Era Elite compare to a CO2 laser?

The difference is pulse duration and where the energy goes. CO2 lasers operate at 10,600nm and pulse in the 1 to 10 millisecond range, producing significant thermal damage and 2 to 4 weeks of recovery. Era's 2940nm wavelength sits at the peak of water absorption, more than ten times higher than CO2, and its 300-microsecond pulse ablates faster than heat can spread. The result is minimal residual thermal damage and a recovery measured in days.

How long is downtime after Era resurfacing?

Downtime varies by module. AfterGlow results in zero downtime. Full-field resurfacing with the 10mm module typically runs 3 to 5 days with reepithelialization within roughly 48 hours. Higher-fluence 6mm and Hybrid Fractional treatments extend that. For comparison, CO2 resurfacing runs 2 to 4 weeks.

Can Era treatments be delegated to trained staff?

Era's device characteristics support delegation. Parameters are consistent, the handpiece makes no skin contact, no cryogen or contact cooling is involved, and training requirements are minimal. Whether a given treatment may actually be delegated depends on your state's scope-of-practice rules for laser procedures and on your medical director's protocols, which vary considerably. Confirm against your state board before building a delegated model.
