The LightPod Neo is uniquely able to perform efficaciously without skin cooling by delivering the same range of laser energy density as traditional longer pulsed (3 msec to 30 msec) Nd:YAG 1064 nm lasers, but in a shorter 0.65msec pulse duration.

While the melanin concentrations in the epidermis are exposed to the same laser fluence as it passes through, the time of such exposure is 5 to 50 times shorter with the 0.65 msec pulse duration; this results in a lesser degree of laser energy absorption in the epidermal melanin. As a result, there is less heat generation within the epidermis, allowing treatment with no skin cooling and with virtually no discomfort.

In addition, the lesser absorption of laser energy within the epidermis results in a higher percentage of laser energy reaching the targets in the deeper dermis, i.e. hair follicles, which increases efficacy at a similar fluence as compared to longer pulsed lasers. Furthermore, because the 0.65 msec pulse duration is shorter than the Thermal Relaxation Time of the skin tissue surrounding the follicle (estimated as 0.8 msec), the laser-generated heat is effectively sealed within the follicle as it doesn’t have time to conduct outward to the surrounding skin. Therefore the temperature of the target tissue and consequent follicle destruction are maximized.

Pain-free, Permanent Hair Reduction Thanks to its groundbreaking MicroPulse-1064 technology, the LightPod Neo provides high power for efficient hair removal in a pulse duration that is safe for all skin types.
